Music: Mr. Russell Burt

Hello, my name is Russell Burt and I am extremely excited to be teaching music at Saint Gabriel Catholic School.  Growing up in the Los Angeles  area, I attended St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs where I discovered my passion for music.  Over the past thirty years I have worked as a professional musician, performing alongside entertainers such as Wayne Newton, Martha Reeves, The Vandellas, The Platters, The 5th Dimension and many others.  I've also treaveled the world performing in musical theater and on cruise ships and was even selected to perfom in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

I came to Las Vegas in 1989 specifically to study music performance at UNLV, but instead discovered my other passion, which is teaching.  Over the past 15 years I've taught musci in the CCSD for Mendoza Elementary, Decker Elementary and Von Tobel Middle School.  In addition to that I have also been the woodwind instructor for the Green Valley High School and Centennial High School bands.

After taking a few years off from teaching to work on some music projects, I am thrilled to be a member of the Saint Gabriel family where I can share the joys of music with students.  In my personal experience I've discovered that music and the fine arts can be a gateway to a better understanding of all subjects, andmy goal at Saint Gabriel is to inspire and challenge young minds in the same way that great teachers have inspired and challenged me.
